whether they are two full sisters or two parallel paternal cousins; in either case they are entitled to two-thirds by analogy with the two direct daughters, for a granddaughter through a son holds the same legal position as a daughter. Yet this ruling depends on three conditions:

1. They must number two or more.
2. No male agnate may be present—that is, no grandson through a son—whether he is their brother or a cousin on the same generational level.
3. There must be no closer inheriting descendant above them, such as a direct son, any grandson, or one or more granddaughters who are nearer to the deceased.
