The time for slaughtering the hady of tamattuʿ and the udhiyah begins after the ʿEid prayer and lasts until the end of the Days of Tashrīq, according to the soundest opinion.
It is recommended for the pilgrim to eat from his hady if it is the hady of tamattuʿ or qirān, and likewise from his udhiyah, and to give part of it as a gift and part as charity—one third for each—because of the verse, “So eat from them and feed [others]” (Q 22:28).
As for the compensatory hady (hady al-jabrān), which is offered for committing a violation while in iḥrām or for omitting an obligatory act, he must not eat any part of it.
Whoever intends to offer an udhiyah, once the first ten days of Dhu al-Ḥijjah have begun, should not take anything from his hair or nails until he has sacrificed, for the Prophet ﷺ said, “When the ten (days) begin and one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him not remove any of his hair or nails until he has sacrificed.” Muslim narrated this.
If he does trim his hair or nails, he should seek Allah’s forgiveness; no ransom is due.
