The time for standing (wuqūf) begins, according to the sound view, once the sun has passed its zenith on the Day of ʿArafah and continues until dawn breaks on the night of the tenth. Anyone who stands during the daytime must remain until sunset, whereas the one who arrives and stands at night suffices with even a single moment, for the Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever reaches ʿArafah by night has secured the pilgrimage.”
Standing at ʿArafah is a pillar of Hajj—indeed, its greatest pillar—because the Prophet ﷺ declared, “Hajj is ʿArafah.” The place for the standing encompasses all of ʿArafah within its designated boundaries; whoever stands outside those limits has not fulfilled the requirement.
May Allah grant everyone success in the deeds and words that He loves and approves. He is the All-Hearing, the Ever-Responsive.
