and when the Day of Tarwiyah dawned they set out for Mina and entered into ihram for Hajj.
One should assume this ihram for Hajj from the very spot where he is staying—whether inside Mecca, outside it, or in Mina—and he is not to go to the Kaʿbah for an additional tawaf after doing so.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728 AH) said: “When the Day of Tarwiyah comes he should enter ihram, doing just as he did at the miqat. If he wishes, he may assume ihram from within Mecca; if he wishes, from outside the city. This is the correct view. The Companions of the Prophet ﷺ assumed ihram only from al-Bathāʾ, in accordance with his command. The sunnah is to enter ihram from whatever place one is lodging, and the Meccan likewise assumes ihram from his own home, for the Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Whoever lives inside the boundary of Mecca begins his ihram from his house; even the people of Mecca start from Mecca.’”
Ibn al-Qayyim (d. 751 AH) added: “When Thursday morning—the Day of Tarwiyah—came, the Prophet ﷺ set out with the Muslims who were with him toward Mina; indeed, they entered ihram with Mecca already behind them.”
