The restricted takbīr—recited after each obligatory prayer—begins, for anyone not in a state of iḥrām, with the dawn prayer on the Day of ʿArafah and continues until the ʿAṣr prayer of the last Day of Tashrīq. As for the pilgrim who is in iḥrām, he starts the restricted takbīr after the ẓuhr prayer on the Day of Sacrifice and continues it until the ʿAṣr prayer of the final Tashrīq day, because before that he is occupied with the talbiyah.

Al-Dārquṭnī narrates from Jābir: “The Prophet ﷺ used to pronounce the takbīr from the dawn prayer on the Day of ʿArafah until the ʿAṣr prayer of the last Day of Tashrīq, whenever he concluded the obligatory prayers.” In another wording: “When he had prayed the dawn prayer on the morning of ʿArafah, he would turn to his Companions and say, ‘Stay where you are,’ then proclaim, ‘Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, lā ilāha illā Allāh; Allāhu akbar, Allāhu akbar, wa li-llāhi l-ḥamd.’”

Allah the Exalted says, “And remember Allah during the appointed days” (2:203)—that is, the Days of Tashrīq.

Imām al-Nawawī said, “This is the preponderant view, and it is the practice followed in the various lands.”

Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah stated, “The soundest opinion regarding the takbīr, held by the majority of the early Muslims and the jurists among the Companions and the leading imams, is that it is recited after every prayer from the dawn of the Day of ʿArafah until the end of the Days of Tashrīq, based on the report in the Sunan collections: ‘The Day of ʿArafah, the Day of Sacrifice, and the Days of Minā are our festival—the people of Islam—days of eating, drinking, and remembering Allah.’”
