and delaying the Fiṭr prayer so that there is ample time to disburse Zakāt al-Fiṭr before the prayer.
It is a recommended sunnah to eat a few dates before setting out for the Fiṭr prayer, and to refrain from eating on the Day of Sacrifice until after the prayer. Buraydah reported: “The Prophet ﷺ would not leave on the day of Fiṭr until he had eaten, and he would not eat on the Day of Naḥr until he had prayed.” Reported by Aḥmad and others.
Shaykh Taqī al-Dīn said: “Because Allah placed the prayer before the sacrifice in His words, ‘So pray to your Lord and sacrifice’ (Q 108:2), and placed purification before the prayer in His words, ‘Successful indeed is the one who purifies himself, remembers the name of his Lord, and then prays’ (Q 87:14–15), the Sunnah is that charity precedes the prayer on the day of Fiṭr, whereas the slaughter follows the prayer on the day of Naḥr.”
It is recommended to leave early for the ʿEid prayer, enabling one to sit close to the imam, obtain the virtue of waiting for the prayer, and thus increase one’s reward.
It is also recommended for a Muslim to adorn himself for the ʿEid prayer by wearing his finest clothes. Jābir reported: “The Prophet ﷺ had a garment that he would wear on the two ʿEids and on Fridays.” Recorded by Ibn Khuzaymah in his Ṣaḥīḥ. Ibn ʿUmar likewise wore his best clothes on the two ʿEids, as related by al-Bayhaqī with a sound chain.
