Chapter on the Rulings of Jumuʿah (the Friday Prayer)

It is so named because it gathers a large number of worshippers, and its day is the finest day of the week.

In the two Ṣaḥīḥs and other collections it is narrated: “The best of your days is Friday.”

The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—also said: “We are the last [community in this world] yet the first on the Day of Resurrection, the first to be judged. Although the Scripture was given to those before us, Friday was the day Allah made obligatory for them; they differed about it, so Allah guided us to it, and now the rest of humanity follows our lead.”

Muslim reports that he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Allah caused those before us to miss Friday. Thus the Jews adopted Saturday and the Christians Sunday. Then Allah brought us forth and guided us to Friday.”
