Chapter: The Prayer of Those with Valid Excuses
Those with valid excuses are the sick, the traveller, and the fearful—people who are unable to perform the prayer in the same manner as someone free of hardship. The Lawgiver has lightened their burden and instructed them to pray according to their capacity. This reflects the ease and magnanimity of this religion, which was revealed to lift distress.
Allah, Exalted is He, says: “He has not placed upon you in the religion any hardship.” And He says: “Allah desires ease for you and does not desire hardship for you.” And He says: “Allah does not burden any soul beyond its capacity.” And He says: “So fear Allah as much as you are able.”
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “When I command you to do something, carry out of it as much as you are able….”
Many other texts as well declare Allah’s grace toward His servants and the leniency built into His law.
