Chapter on the Duha Prayer
Know, dear Muslim, that numerous ḥadīths have been transmitted regarding the Duha (mid-morning) prayer:
• Among them is what is recorded in the two Ṣaḥīḥ collections from Abū Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said, “My close friend, the Messenger of Allah, advised me to do three things: to fast three days of every month, to perform two rakʿahs of the Duha prayer, and to observe the Witr prayer before I sleep.”
• In the narration of Abū Saʿīd it is reported that the Prophet would pray Duha so persistently that we would say, “He will never leave it,” and then he would omit it for so long that we would say, “He no longer prays it.”
The minimum prescribed for the Duha prayer is two rakʿahs, as indicated by the aforementioned report of Abū Hurayrah: “and two rakʿahs of Duha.” This is further supported by the ḥadīth of Anas: “Whoever remains seated in the place where he offered the dawn prayer until he performs two rakʿahs of Duha, speaking only good, will have his sins forgiven, even if they are more abundant than the foam of the sea.” This was narrated by Abū Dāwūd.
