al-Moulakhas al-FiqhiSalih Al-Fawzan
  1. The hides of animals that have died without lawful slaughter are forbidden to use unless they have been tanned. The jurists differed over whether they become permissible after tanning, but the soundest view—adopted by the majority—is that they do, for authentic hadiths allow their use once tanned. Their impurity is incidental and is removed by the tanning process, as the Prophet ﷺ said: “Water and mimosa bark cleanse it,” and in another wording, “The tanning of a hide is its purification.”

Likewise, garments owned by non-Muslims are permissible to wear so long as they are not known to be impure, for the basic presumption is purity and mere doubt does not overturn it. The same ruling applies to cloth they have woven or dyed, since the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions would wear fabrics woven and dyed by non-Muslims.

And Allah knows best.
