These noble ḥadiths establish the legitimacy of these litanies after the obligatory prayers and spell out the tremendous reward granted to anyone who recites them. Hence we should hold fast to them, performing them exactly as the Prophet taught: immediately after the salām, before we leave the spot in which we prayed, and in the following order.
• As soon as we conclude the prayer with the salām, we seek Allah’s forgiveness three times, saying: Astaghfirullāh (I ask Allah for forgiveness).
• Next we say: Allāhumma anta as-salām, wa minka as-salām, tabārakta yā dhā al-jalāli wa-l-ikrām (O Allah, You are peace and from You is peace. Blessed are You, O Possessor of majesty and honor).
• Then we say: Lā ilāha illa Allāh waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu al-mulk wa lahu al-ḥamd, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr. Allāhumma lā māniʿa limā aʿṭayt, wa lā muʿṭiya limā manaʿt, wa lā yanfaʿu dhā al-jaddi minka al-jadd (There is no god but Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things. O Allah, none can withhold what You give, none can give what You withhold, and the fortune of the fortunate is of no use against You—only righteous deeds avail).
• After that we say: Lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh, lā ilāha illa Allāh, wa lā naʿbudu illā iyyāh, lahu an-niʿmah, wa lahu al-faḍl, wa lahu ath-thanāʾ al-ḥasan, lā ilāha illa Allāh, mukhliṣīna lahu ad-dīn wa law kariha al-kāfirūn (There is no might and no power except with Allah. There is no god but Allah, and we worship none but Him. His is the bounty, His is the grace, and His is the finest praise. There is no god but Allah, dedicating the religion sincerely to Him even though the disbelievers may dislike it).
• We then glorify Allah thirty-three times, praise Him thirty-three times, and magnify Him thirty-three times, completing the hundred with: Lā ilāha illa Allāh waḥdahu lā sharīka lah, lahu al-mulk wa lahu al-ḥamd, wa huwa ʿalā kulli shayʾin qadīr (There is no god but Allah alone, without partner; His is the dominion and His is all praise, and He has power over all things).
After the Maghrib and Fajr prayers we add ten repetitions of the tahlīl (the words lā ilāha illa Allāh) and say seven times: Rabb ajirnī mina an-nār (My Lord, protect me from the Fire).
