His are the blessings, His is the grace, and His is the most excellent praise. There is no god but Allah, dedicating the religion sincerely to Him, even though the unbelievers may loathe it.
In the Sunan collections, Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) relates that the Messenger of Allah said: “Whoever, after the Fajr prayer, while still sitting with his legs folded and before speaking, says: La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahu al-mulk, walahu al-hamd, yuhyi wa yumit, wa huwa ʿala kulli shayʾin qadir (There is no god but Allah alone, without partner. His is the dominion, to Him belongs all praise; He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things Powerful) ten times, ten good deeds will be recorded for him, ten sins will be erased, his rank will be raised by ten degrees, and he will remain that entire day under protection from every harm, guarded from Satan, and no sin can overtake him that day—except shirk.” Al-Tirmidhi said, “This is a sound and authentic hadith.” It has also been reported that these ten utterances of the tahlil are to be recited after the Maghrib prayer, in the hadith of Umm Salamah recorded by Ahmad and the hadith of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari found in the Sahih of Ibn Hibban.
He should likewise say after both Maghrib and Fajr: Rabbi ajirni mina al-nar (My Lord, shelter me from the Fire) seven times, as narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, al-Nasa’i, Ibn Majah, and others.
