3 – Copy (C)
This manuscript is preserved at the King Saud University Library in Riyadh under number 1656, titled “Treatise on Guidance.” It consists of nine folios, penned in a neat, clear hand; the paragraph headings appear in a larger script of red ink, and a red line is drawn above some paragraphs. Its dimensions are 19 × 12 cm and it contains twenty-one lines per page. Dating from the fourteenth century AH, it suffers from a lacuna in its middle similar to the previous copy, and the scribe is unknown. A recurring feature is that passages occupying a full line or more in the first two copies are here reduced to a single word or two!
The manuscript introduces the work with the words: “This is a letter sent by Shams al-Dīn Abū ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, to one of his brothers.”
