Ibn Masʿūd—may Allah be pleased with him—said, “So long as you are remembering Allah, you are in prayer, even if you are in the marketplace.”
Muʿādh ibn Jabal—may Allah be pleased with him—declared, “Studying knowledge is an act of glorification (tasbīḥ).”
The author then notes what Allah has promised the hypocrites and disbelievers: the Fire, the curse, and perpetual torment—set against what He has promised the believers: the Garden, His good pleasure, and mercy.

(2) Manuscript B adds the honorific radiya Allahu ʿanhu (may Allah be pleased with him). The Companion in question is Muʿadh ibn Jabal ibn ʿAmr ibn Aws al-Ansari al-Khazraji, Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman. One of the seventy Ansar who pledged at al-ʿAqabah, he fought in every campaign with the Prophet, was recognised as one of the most learned Companions in the Qur’an, and was praised by the Prophet as the community’s foremost authority on what is lawful and unlawful. The Prophet sent him to Yemen as a judge and teacher; he returned to Madina during Abu Bakr’s caliphate, campaigned in Syria under Abu ʿUbaydah, and assumed command of the army when the plague struck. Muʿadh died in the Jordan region in 18 AH/639 CE at the age of thirty-three. See: Usd al-Ghabah 4:376–378; al-Isabah, no. 8037; Ghāyat al-Nihāyah 2:301, no. 3620.
