in the utmost ignorance and deviation.
As for the Messengers—may God’s blessings be upon them—their way is the way of the Qur’an. The Exalted says:
“Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they ascribe to Him; and peace be upon the Messengers; and all praise is due to Allah, Lord of all worlds.” (37:180–182)
God Most High also informs in His Book that He is the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting Sustainer, All-Knowing, All-Wise, All-Forgiving, Most Merciful, All-Hearing, All-Seeing, Most High, Most Great. He created the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them in six days; then He rose over the Throne. He spoke to Moses in direct speech, manifested Himself to the mountain so that it crumbled, is pleased with the believers, and is angered by the disbelievers—along with other like names and attributes.
For purposes of negation He says:
“There is nothing like unto Him” (42:11);
“Nor is there anyone comparable to Him” (112:4);
“Do you know of any who bears His name?” (19:65);
“So do not set up rivals to Allah” (2:22).
By these verses He negates that His attributes resemble those of created beings, affirming that nothing is comparable to Him—neither His sacred Essence, described by His names and attributes, nor any of His qualities or acts:
“Exalted and highly raised is He above what they say. The seven heavens, the earth, and all within them glorify Him; there is nothing that does not celebrate His praise, though you do not understand their glorification. Truly, He is Forbearing, Forgiving.” (17:43–44)
Thus the believer believes in God and in His Most Beautiful Names, calls upon Him by them, and shuns
