No sound proof exists, no explicit report, no accepted creed, and no victorious worldly authority. It was only after the Christians grew powerful and seized the coastal regions and other territories from the Rāfiḍites that they bored through the chamber of the Friend of God—peace be upon him—cut an opening in it and fitted it with a door; the mark of that breach is still visible on the doorway. Making that spot a place of worship was therefore a novelty introduced by the Christians, not something ever practiced by the early generations of this Ummah or its foremost exemplars.
