Iqtiḍāʾ al-Ṣirāṭ al-MustaqīmIbn Taimiya

And the Exalted One says:

“Behold, to Allah belongs all who are in the heavens and all who are on the earth. Those who call upon partners besides Allah follow nothing but conjecture; they do nothing but invent lies.” (Yūnus 10:66)

He also says:

“Those who adopted the calf will be overtaken by wrath from their Lord and disgrace in worldly life; thus do We recompense those who fabricate.” (Al-Aʿrāf 7:152)

Abū Qilābah commented, “This applies to every innovator in this Ummah until the Day of Resurrection.” And it is just as he said, for the people of falsehood and fabrication will receive the wrath and humiliation that Allah has promised them. Polytheism and all other innovations are founded upon lies and invention; hence, the farther one is from pure tawḥīd and the Sunnah, the nearer he is to shirk, innovation, and fabrication—such as the Rāfiḍah, who are the most mendacious of the sects of desire and the greatest in their associationism, so that there is none among the people

(1) Surah Yunus, v. 66. The printed edition shortens and changes the wording from His statement, “On the Day He will call them, saying, ‘Where are My partners?’ … they do nothing but conjecture,” whereas the other manuscripts preserve the full, agreed-upon text. (2) Surah al-Araf, v. 152. (3) Related by Ibn Jarir al-Tabari in his Tafsir on this verse (vol. 9, pp. 48–49) through two chains from Abu Qilabah; he records the phrase kullu muftar (“every fabricator”) instead of mubtadi (“innovator”). (4) Manuscripts C and D add: “and as he said.” (5) The manuscripts diverge here. Copy B reads: “So whoever is closer to shirk (polytheism) is closer to lying and fabrication, such as the Rafidah.” Copies C and D read: “Every era that was nearer to shirk was nearer to lying and fabrication, like the Rafidah.” The text adopted here follows copy AT and the printed edition.
