The Exalted also says:
“When affliction touches you at sea, all those you call upon vanish save Him. Yet when He delivers you safely to land, you turn away, and man is ever ungrateful.” (al-Isrāʾ 67)
And He says:
“Who is it that answers the distressed one when he calls upon Him, removes hardship, and appoints you heirs of the earth?” (an-Naml 62)
And He says:
“Say: ‘Call upon those you claim besides Him; they have no power to remove adversity from you, nor to shift it elsewhere. Those whom they invoke are themselves seeking a means of nearness to their Lord—striving to see which of them will be closest. They hope for His mercy and fear His punishment; indeed, the punishment of your Lord is ever to be dreaded.’” (al-Isrāʾ 56–57)
And He says:
“Have they taken, apart from Allah, intercessors? Say: ‘Even though they possess no power whatsoever and lack understanding?’ Say: ‘To Allah alone belongs all intercession.’” (az-Zumar 43–44)
The fact that none but Him, glorified be He, answers such momentous requests proves His oneness, silences the argument of every polytheist, and makes clear that every other response to prayer—whether it comes about through unlawful or lawful means—is likewise His work alone, without partner. Just as His creation of the heavens, the earth, the winds, the clouds, and other mighty bodies testifies to His unity and to His being the Creator of all things, so too
