Iqtiḍāʾ al-Ṣirāṭ al-MustaqīmIbn Taimiya

The Prophet—may blessings and peace be upon him—kept repeating the line:

“They are the worst conqueror of the one they overpower.”(1)

For this very reason Allah reminded Zechariah, peace be upon him, of His favor when He said,

“And We set his wife aright for him” (al-Anbiyāʾ 21:90).(2)

Accordingly, some scholars have stated, “A man should earnestly beseech Allah to rectify his wife for him.”(3)

(1) The incident is narrated in Musnad Ahmad, 2/202, and is also cited by Ibn Saʿd in al-Tabaqat, 7/53–54, and by Ibn Kathir in al-Sirah, ed. Mustafa ʿAbd al-Wahed, 4/142. (2) Qurʾan, Surah al-Anbiya (21:90). (3) The printed edition adds the phrase: fi al-raghbah (“regarding entreaty”).
