This provides us with certain knowledge that the Leader of the God-fearing—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—was most emphatic in barring his community from the unbelievers’ festivals, laboring by every possible means to efface and eradicate them. The concession granted to the People of the Book to remain upon their faith never implied that any of their feast days should be left standing for his nation; just as it did not authorize the retention of any other facet of their disbelief or disobedience. On the contrary, he—peace and blessings be upon him—went to great lengths to command his followers to differ from them even in many matters that are themselves lawful, and in certain details of devotion, lest similarity there become a gateway to resembling them in other affairs. Such deliberate divergence serves as a barrier shielding the faithful from all their practices, for the more you differ from the people of Hell, the farther removed you are from the deeds of the people of Hell.
His solicitous care for his community and his sincere counsel—may my father and mother be sacrificed for him—know no further limit. All of this is but a favor from Allah upon him and upon humankind, yet most people do not know.

She added, ‘They were not professional singers.’ Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, said, ‘Is the flute of Satan being played in the house of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?’—and it was a festival day—whereupon the Prophet said
