So he gathered the sheep and began slaughtering them. One of the sheep slipped away, and he went after it saying, ‘O Allah, enable me to fulfil my vow!’ He caught it and slaughtered it.
Abū Dāwūd said: Muhammad ibn Bashār narrated to us; Abū Bakr al-Ḥanafī narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us—from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from Maymūnah bint Kardam ibn Sufyān, from her father—a report conveying the same meaning, though in abbreviated form. He said: ‘Does it contain…’

Ahmad likewise records it in abridged form (3/419) and at greater length, following Abu Dawud’s wording, with an additional passage (6/366): the first in the Musnad of Kurdam, the second in the Musnad of Maymuna bint Kurdam.

(6) ‘Abd al-Hamid b. Ja‘far b. ‘Abd Allah b. al-Hakam al-Ansari al-Awsi, Abu al-Fadl (or Abu Hafs): declared reliable by Ahmad and Ibn Ma‘in. Muslim and the Four recorded from him. He died in Medina in 153 AH aged about seventy. See Tahdhib al-Tahdhib 6:111–12, no. 223.
