For God, exalted be He, singled out the Arabs and their language with rulings by which they were distinguished. Then He preferred Quraysh over the rest of the Arabs by investing in them the succession to Prophethood and other exclusive privileges.
Next He granted special favor to the Banū Hāshim: charity (zakāh) is forbidden to them, they are entitled to a portion of the fayʾ, and they enjoy still other distinctions. Thus God, glorified is He, has allotted to every rank its due measure of excellence; and God is All-Knowing, All-Wise:
“Allah chooses messengers from among the angels and from among mankind” (al-Ḥajj 75),
and
“Allah knows best where to place His message” (al-Anʿām 124).
People have also spoken at length about His words, “And indeed it is a reminder for you and for your people” (al-Zukhruf 44), and about His words, “There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves” (al-Tawbah 128), but this is not the place to enter into those discussions.
A Prohibition against Hating the Arabs
Among the ḥadīths cited on this matter is what we have transmitted through well-known chains to Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq al-Ṣaghānī: He reported, “ʿAbd Allāh ibn …” (and the chain continues).
