In another report, which we have transmitted with an authentic chain of narration from Saʿīd al-Jarīrī from Abū Naḍrah, he related—indeed he said, “he related to us”—from one who had witnessed the Prophet’s sermon at Minā in the middle of the Days of Tashrīq while the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was mounted on a camel. He said:
“O people! Truly your Lord—Exalted and Majestic—is One, and your father is one. There is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, nor of a black person over a red-skinned person, except through God-fearing piety. Have I conveyed the message?”
They replied, “Yes.”
He then said, “Let those who are present convey it to those who are absent.”
This ḥadīth is also narrated from Abū Naḍrah on the authority of Jābir.
In the two Ṣaḥīḥs it is reported from ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ, may God be pleased with him, that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
“The family of so-and-so are not my allies; my only ally is God and the righteous believers.”
(1) The printed edition erroneously reads “Saʿd.” The correct narrator is Saʿid b. Iyas al-Jariri, Abu Masʿud of Basra. Taqrib al-Tahdhib (1/291, no. 127 S) describes him as “reliable, fifth tier; his memory declined three years before his death.” All six canonical compilers and others narrated from him. He died in 144 AH/761 CE.
(2) The narrator is al-Mundhir b. Malik b. Qiṭʿah al-ʿAbdi al-ʿAwfi, Abu Nadrah, a Basran whom al-Nasaʾi, Ibn Maʿin, Abu Zurʿah, and Ibn Saʿd judged trustworthy. He died in 108 AH/726 CE. See Khulasat al-Tadhhib, p. 287 and margin.
(3) Imam Ahmad transmits a similar report with this very chain in his Musnad (5/411), citing “a man among the Prophet’s Companions” without naming him. In al-Fath al-Rabbani (12/227) al-Saʿati quotes al-Haythami’s verdict: “Ahmad narrated it, and its transmitters are the narrators of the Sahih.” In the present work, the author likewise grades the isnad as sound.
