(1) ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd al-Darāwardī al-Madanī, Abū Muḥammad. He is classed as reliable but of weak retention and liable to error; he died in 186 AH/802 CE. See: Tahdhīb al-tahdhīb 6:353–55, no. 677. (2) Copies B, J and D read “Sahl,” but “Suhayl” is probably correct. No full biography is extant, yet al-Bukhārī notes in al-Tārīkh al-kabīr: “Suhayl narrates from Ḥasan ibn Ḥasan, and Muḥammad ibn ʿAjlān reports from him; the chain is broken.” Ibn Abī Ḥātim likewise lists him in al-Jarḥ wa-l-taʿdīl without comment. See: al-Tārīkh al-kabīr 4:105, no. 2122; al-Jarḥ wa-l-taʿdīl 4:249, no. 1071. (3) The printed edition has: “raʾānī ʿAlī al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī,” which is incorrect. Manuscript Ṭ reads: “raʾā al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī,” which is likewise mistaken. (4) Ibn Ḥajar describes him as “reliable, of the fourth generation”; he died in 97 AH/716 CE at a little over fifty years of age. See: Taqrīb al-tahdhīb 1:165, no. 262.
