He embraced Islam in the year of Khaybar, fought in several campaigns alongside the Messenger of Allah, and was sent by ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab to Basra to instruct its people. Under ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿAmir he served as the city’s judge, then asked to be relieved and was excused. Renowned for having his supplications answered, he did not live to see the civil strife.
