Hassan al-Azdi al-Qirdusi, Abu ʿAbd Allah of Basra, was one of the leading preservers of hadith. Ibn Maʿin, Ibn Saʿd and al-ʿIjli deemed him reliable, and Ibn Hibban listed him among the trustworthy. He died in 148 AH. See Tahdhib al-Tahdhib 11/34–37, no. 75 H. (8) Abu Hilal is Muhammad b. Salim al-Rasibi of Basra. Abu Hatim (as quoted by his son ʿAbd al-Rahman) said: “He is acceptable but not very strong.” Yahya b. Maʿin called him “fair,” Abu Zurʿa judged him “soft,” and Ahmad b. Hanbal said: “I tolerate his hadith, though he disagrees in the reports of Qatada.” He died in 165 AH. See al-Jarh wa-l-Taʿdil 7/273, no. 1484; Tabaqat Ibn Saʿd 7/278. (9) He is Muhammad b. Sirin, Abu Bakr. “Sirin” is said to be the name of his mother rather than his father, which is the stronger view. His father was a freedman of Anas b. Malik, captured at Ayn al-Tamar; Anas purchased and later manumitted him. Hisham b. Hassan said: “He is the most truthful person I ever met.” Ibn Saʿd wrote: “He was trustworthy, reliable, eminent, a jurist-imam of abundant knowledge and piety.” He died in 110 AH.
