ʿAṭiyyah related: “Some Jews used to come and say, ‘Rāʿinā—give us your ear.’ When certain Muslims began repeating the phrase, Allah loathed for them what the Jews had said.”
ʿAṭāʾ added: “Among the Anṣār it was simply an idiom from the pre-Islamic days.”
Abū al-ʿĀliyah said: “When the Arab idolaters conversed, one of them would say to his companion, ‘Arʿinī your hearing,’ so they were forbidden to use that expression.” The same was reported by al-Ḍaḥḥāk.
(1) Atiyyah ibn Saʿd ibn Junadah al-ʿAwfi, of the Jadilah branch of Qays, kunya Abu al-Hasan. Taqrib al-Tahdhib describes him as “reliable but often mistaken; he was a Shiʿi and practiced tadlis.” Ahmad judged him weak; Yahya ibn Maʿin said he was “acceptable”; and Ibn Saʿd wrote: “He was, God willing, trustworthy and has sound hadiths, though some scholars do not rely on him.” He died in 111 AH/729 CE. (3) ʿAtaʾ ibn Abi Rabah (his father’s name was Aslam), a mawla of the Quraysh clan al-Fihri. One of the foremost Meccan Tabiʿin, he was a learned, upright and prolific hadith scholar as well as a jurist. He met many Companions and narrated from them. (5) Rafiʿ ibn Mihran al-Riyahi, a Tamimi from Basra. Yahya ibn Maʿin and Abu Zurʿah considered him reliable; Taqrib al-Tahdhib calls him “trustworthy, though he often sends reports mursal.” He died in 90 AH/709 CE. Source: Taqrib al-Tahdhib 1:252, no. 105.

(9) Al-Dahhak ibn Muzahim al-Hilali al-Khurasani, a respected Tabiʿi and leading authority on tafsir. Al-Thawri said: “Take tafsir from four: Mujahid, ʿIkrimah, Saʿid ibn Jubayr, and al-Dahhak.” Taqrib al-Tahdhib describes him as “reliable, though he frequently narrates mursal reports.” Ibn Hibban and Ahmad deemed him trustworthy, whereas Yahya ibn Saʿid al-Qattan considered him weak. (١) هو: عطية بن سعد بن جنادة العوفي، من جديلة قيس، أبو الحسن، قال في تقريب التهذيب: " صدوق يخطئ كثيرا، كان شيعيا مدلسا "، وضعفه أحمد، وقال يحيى بن معين: صالح، وقال ابن سعد في الطبقات: " وكان ثقة إن شاء الله، وله أحاديث صالحة، ومن الناس من لا يحتج به "، توفي سنة (١١١هـ) .
