And His statement:
“Indeed, those who split up their religion and became factions—you have nothing whatsoever to do with them.”
(al-Anʿām 6:159)
In the same vein He described the discord of the Christians, saying:
“So We set enmity and hatred among them until the Day of Resurrection; and Allah will inform them of what they used to do.”
(al-Māʾidah 5:14)
He likewise portrayed the dissension of the Jews:
“We cast among them enmity and hatred until the Day of Resurrection; whenever they kindle a fire for war, Allah extinguishes it.”
(al-Māʾidah 5:64)
and He said:
“They have torn their affair among themselves into fragments; each party rejoices in what it possesses.”
(al-Muʾminūn 23:53)
Similarly, when the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—foretold that the community would break into seventy-three sects, he said: “All of them are in the Fire except one, and that is the Jamaʿah.” In another wording he said: “Those who are upon what I and my Companions are upon today.”
