The Sunnah is indispensable in every lawful deed
– In ribat (frontier guard duty), hijra (migration), jihad, and all other prescribed acts, the Sunnah is essential, for it is the very soul of every action.
– As related in the two authentic collections¹, the Prophet ﷺ said, “Actions are judged only by intentions, and every person shall have only what he intended. Whoever’s migration was to Allah and His Messenger, his migration is truly to Allah and His Messenger; but whoever migrated for some worldly gain or to marry a woman, his migration is for the motive for which he migrated.”
– Likewise, in the two authentic collections² it is reported that someone asked, “Messenger of Allah, a man may fight out of courage, or tribal zeal, or to be seen— which of these is in the path of Allah?” He replied, “Whoever fights so that the word of Allah may be supreme is in the path of Allah.”
– The Exalted says, “Fight them until there is no more persecution and religion is wholly for Allah. But if they desist, then verily Allah sees what they do. Yet if they turn away, know that Allah is your Protector—how excellent a Protector and how excellent a Helper!” (Sūrat al-Anfāl 8:39).
– May Allah grant us and all our fellow believers success in attaining the inward and outward states and deeds that He loves and is pleased with, and shield us from everything He dislikes.
