And in the Sunan collections¹ it is also related that he said: “Do not turn my grave into a festival.”
Exchanging sins for good deeds
173 – Travelling to hold the taʿrīf gathering at certain shrines is forbidden; it is on a par with eating the flesh of swine. Likewise, travelling to hold such a gathering at Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem), or travelling to visit graves or other spots besides the three mosques, is likewise prohibited. Yet there are people accustomed to these innovations who find within them the elements of polytheism they contain, and so they worship through them, linger there, and head for those places on their account, while neglecting to go to that very region—or somewhere near it—for the purpose of ribāṭ (guarding the frontier) in the path of Allah, which is among the finest deeds according to the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and the unanimous agreement of the Muslims. Are such people not among those who have exchanged evil for good?!
