The minimum jizya is one dinar each year; two dinars are taken from those of average means and four dinars from the well-to-do. It is permissible, in addition to the set amount, to require them to provide hospitality. The jizya agreement contains four conditions: that they pay the tax; that the rulings of Islam apply to them; that they speak of the religion of Islam only with respect; and that they refrain from anything harmful to the Muslims. They are to be identified by wearing distinctive clothing and fastening a zunnār (belt), and they are prohibited from riding horses.
