Question 7: The Exalted One said, “We placed coverings over their hearts so they do not comprehend it, and in their ears deafness” (al-Anʿām 25). Some people sense in this verse a hint of fatalistic compulsion. What is your view on that?
Answer: This placing is a creational (universal) decree. To understand it, we must first clarify the meaning of the Divine Will, for the Divine Will is divided into two categories:
