Disagreement among the dialecticians over the names that may be applied to both God and the servant

Thirteenth: The scholars have differed over those names that are used for both God and human beings—such as the Living, the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing, the All-Knowing, the All-Powerful, the Sovereign, and the like. A faction of the mutakallimūn claimed that these names are literal when applied to the servant but only metaphorical when applied to the Lord. This is the position of the extremist Jahmiyyah and is the most reprehensible of all the views.
