for it may be that someone who carries fiqh conveys it to one more versed than himself, and it may be that a carrier of fiqh is not himself a jurist. Three things against which the heart of a Muslim bears no rancor: devoting one’s deeds sincerely to Allah, giving sincere counsel to those in authority, and keeping to the community of the Muslims—for their collective supplication encompasses all who stand behind them.⦗1⦘

Al-Tirmidhi commented: “This is a hasan sahih (sound and reliable) hadith.”
It is also reported by Ahmad (5/183), al-Darimi (1/75), and Ibn Hibban (al-Ihsan, 2/454) through the chain of Shuʿbah → Umar ibn Sulayman → Abd al-Rahman ibn Aban → his father → Zayd ibn Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him). Ibn Hajar ruled, “This is a sahih (authentic) hadith,” as cited in Fayd al-Qadir by al-Manawi (6/285).

فرب حامل فقه إلى من هو أفقه منه، ورب حامل فقه غير فقيه، ثلاثٌ لا يغل عليهن قلبُ مسلم: إخلاص العمل لله، ومناصحة ولاة الأمور، ولزوم جماعة المسلمين، فإن دعوتهم تحيط من ورائهم) ١.
