Introduction
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muḥammad, his family, and all his companions.
To proceed: The stance of Ahl al-Sunnah wa-l-Jamāʿah toward those in authority is one of justice and moderation. It is built upon following and clinging to the transmitted legacy, just as they do in every other matter of religion. They emulate and do not originate; they follow and do not innovate; and they never set their own intellects, notions, or desires in opposition to the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
