– The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us that Allah marvels at such a person; ⦗1⦘ and when Allah marvels at something, that very marvel points to its immense worth and, because it stands apart from similar deeds, raises its rank and standing.
– This demonstrates that an act of this kind is beloved to Allah and meets with His approval; it is not sufficient to label it merely permissible or allowable so that one might say, “Even if a man is permitted to fight when he is almost certain to be killed, it is still better for him to abstain.”
– On the contrary, the hadith indicates that what this man did is something Allah loves and is pleased with. Everyone knows that in undertakings of this sort a person is killed often—or more often than not. True, he did so as repentance for the forbidden flight he had committed, yet together with that repentance he engaged in this excellent striving (jihad).
– Allah the Exalted says: “Then, indeed, your Lord—to those who emigrated after they had been persecuted, and then strove and remained steadfast—surely, after all that, your Lord is All-Forgiving, Merciful.” (Qur’an 16:110)
– The Prophet ﷺ also said, “The emigrant is the one who abandons what Allah has forbidden.” ⦗2⦘
