20- In the two Ṣaḥīḥ collections it is narrated from Abū Mūsā al-Ashʿarī (may Allah be pleased with him) that someone asked, “Messenger of Allah, a man may fight out of bravery and another out of tribal zeal—of these, which one is in Allah’s cause?” He replied, “Whoever fights so that Allah’s word is supreme is the one who is in Allah’s cause.”¹
21- The Exalted has also said: “Fight them until there is no more persecution and the religion is wholly for Allah.” (al-Baqarah 2:193).
(1) Reported by al-Bukhari, no. 7458, and Muslim, no. 1904. – Benefit: the author states, “People are of four kinds: (1) those who act for Allah with courage and generosity; they are the believers entitled to Paradise. (2) Those who act with courage and generosity for someone other than Allah; they gain only worldly benefit and have no portion in the Hereafter. (3) Those who act for Allah but without courage or generosity; they possess hypocrisy and a deficiency in faith to that same extent. (4) Those who neither act for Allah nor possess courage or generosity; they attain neither this world nor the next.” Majmuʿ al-Fatawa, 28/147.
(2) The manuscript reads “daʿifuhum,” but the reading I have adopted better suits the context; the correct form will reappear on p. 58, confirming this choice.
