…for evil just as he prays for good; man is ever hasty.” (al-Isrāʾ 17:11). He likewise says, “If Allah were to hasten for people the evil (they call for) as they hasten the good, their term would surely be concluded.” (Yūnus 10:11). And regarding the polytheists He says, “And (remember) when they said, ‘O Allah, if this is indeed the truth from You, then rain down upon us stones from the sky or bring us a painful punishment.’ ” (al-Anfāl 8:32). He also says, “If you seek a decisive judgment, the judgment has already come to you; but if you desist, it will be better for you.” (al-Anfāl 8:19). And He says, “Call upon your Lord with humility and in secrecy; indeed, He does not love the transgressors.” (al-Aʿrāf 7:55). He further says, “Recount to them the story of the one to whom We gave Our signs, yet he slipped away from them; so Satan pursued him and he became one of the deviant. Had We willed, We could have raised him by means of them, but he inclined to the earth and followed his own desire…” (al-Aʿrāf 7:175–176). And He says, “If anyone argues with you about him after knowledge has come to you, then say, ‘Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves; then let us earnestly pray and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars.’ ” (Āl ʿImrān 3:61).
The Prophet ﷺ, when he entered the house of Jābir, said, “Do not supplicate against yourselves except with good, for the angels say Āmīn to whatever you utter.”
