A category dominated by reliance and seeking Allah’s help:
This group is marked by an overpowering resolve to seek assistance from Allah and to place their trust in Him. They make a show of their poverty and destitution before Him, submit to His decree and predestination, and yield to His universal commands. Yet they fall short on the side of worship and of dedicating the religion wholly to Allah. Their real purpose is not that all religion be for Allah alone; and even if they claim this, they do not follow Allah’s Sharia and His path. Instead, their aim is some form of dominion in the world—either the dominion of power and influence, or the dominion of unveiling and informing about hidden matters. Or their goal is merely to acquire what they want and fend off what they dislike by whatever means. Or they seek a kind of worship and self-deification in any fashion, while their reliance and trust are enlisted only to serve that personal end. Thus they are either ignorant or unjust: they leave aside part of what Allah has commanded and commit part of what He has forbidden.
This is the condition of many who pursue devotionalism, Sufism, and deliberate poverty. They witness Allah’s predestination and decree but pay no heed to His commands and prohibitions; they behold that all created things stand by Allah, are needy of Him, and that He sustains them, yet they do not consider what He has ordered and forbidden, what He loves and is pleased with, and what He hates and disapproves of.
For this reason, one often finds among them individuals who experience unveilings, exercise influence, and perform extraordinary feats, while at the same time loosening their attachment to parts of the Sharia and acting in opposition
