Then he went over to the women with Bilal at his side, admonished them, reminded them, and instructed them to give charity¹. I saw them stretching out their hands, dropping their offerings into Bilal’s cloak. After that he and Bilal returned home.
Reported by al-Bukhari 2/373 (his wording); Muslim 2/18–19; Ibn Abi Shaybah 2/3/2; al-Mahamili nos. 38, 39; al-Firyabi nos. 85, 93; and Abu Nuʿaym in his Mustakhraj 2/8/2–9/1. Muslim adds in his version, through Ibn Jurayj:
I said to ʿAtaʾ, “Is it truly incumbent upon the imam today to come to the women once he has finished and remind them?” He replied, “Indeed—by my life—this is a duty upon them, so what excuse do they have for not doing it?”
(1) Today there is no longer any need for a sermon directed exclusively to women, for they are the counterparts of men and the same address and exhortation applies to both. In addition, every mosque and jami‘ is equipped with multiple loudspeakers, and such sermons are normally delivered at the ‘id prayer grounds. Nevertheless, the khatib (preacher) should, in his general sermon, take into account the specific concerns of women and include matters they need more than men. — Zuhayr.
ثم أتى النساء ومعه بلال فوعظهن وذكرهن وأمرهن بالصدقة١ فرأيتهن يهوين بأيديهن يقذفنه في ثوب بلال ثم انطلق هو وبلال إلى بيته.
أخرجه البخاري "٢ / ٣٧٣" والسياق له ومسلم "٢ / ١٨ - ١٩" وابن أبي شيبه "٢ / ٣ / ٢" والمحاملي "رقم ٣٨، ٣٩" والفريابي "رقم ٨٥، ٩٣" وأبو نعيم في " مستخرجه " "٢ / ٨ / ٢ - ٩ / ١" وزاد مسلم في روايته عن ابن جريج:
قلت: لعطاء أحقا على الإمام الآن أن يأتي النساء حين يفرغ فيذكرهن؟ قال: إي لعمري إن ذلك لحق عليهم وما لهم لا يفعلون ذلك؟
١ وأما الآن فلا لزوم للموعظة الخاصة بالنساء لأنهن شقائق الرجال والخطاب والموعظة واحدة للرجال والنساء وكذلك لوجود مكبرات الصوت المتعددة في كل مسجد وجامع. ويؤتى بها - عادة - في مصليات العيد.
نعم ويطلب من الخطيب أن يراعي مصلحة النساء بأنواع هن أحوج إليها من الرجال في خطبته الجامعة. "زهير".
