The proof concerning the angels is His statement—exalted is He: “He would never command you to take the angels or the prophets as lords.” (Āl ʿImrān 80)

The proof concerning the prophets is His statement—exalted is He: “And [remember] when Allah will say, ‘Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to the people, “Take me and my mother as two gods apart from Allah”?’ He will reply, ‘Glory be to You! It is not for me to say what I have no right to say. If I had said it, You would surely have known it. You know what is within my soul, while I do not know what is within Yours. Indeed, You alone are the Knower of the unseen.’” (Al-Māʾidah 116)
= The Messenger ﷺ forbade performing salah at sunrise and at sunset (1) as a precaution, because some people prostrate to the sun at those very moments. Hence we were banned from praying then, even though the prayer is addressed to Allah; since doing so resembles the act of the polytheists, it was prohibited to block the means that lead to shirk. The Messenger ﷺ not only prohibited shirk but also closed every path that could lead to it (2).
11 – His statement, “And the proof regarding the angels …” indicates that there were indeed people who worshipped angels and prophets, and that such devotion constitutes shirk. Today, those who venerate graves claim that worshipping angels, prophets, or the righteous does not make one a disbeliever.
12 – His statement, “And the proof regarding the prophets …” shows that worshipping the prophets is shirk just like worshipping idols. =
