The Friday Sunnah

Shaykh al-Islām, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked about the prayer offered after the first adhān on Friday: did the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—perform it, or any of the Companions, the Successors, or the leading imams, or not? Is this practice explicitly stated in any of the recognized schools of law? Moreover, does the Prophet’s statement, “Between every two adhāns there is a prayer,” pertain solely to Friday, or is it general for all times?
