Sujūd al-TilāwahIbn Taimiya

Moreover, this wording is reliably transmitted from Ibn Masʿūd as his own statement. It therefore makes clear that “prayer” is that rite whose key is purification, whose consecrating prohibition is the takbīr, and whose concluding release is the taslīm. The definition covers every act whose entry is by the takbīr and whose exit is by the taslīm: any prayer that contains bowing and prostration, whether performed in two units, a single unit, three consecutive units, or even more. It likewise includes the funeral prayer, for that too begins with the takbīr and ends with the taslīm.
