Sujūd al-TilāwahIbn Taimiya

exegetes cite; they mention no other, such as al-Thalabi and al-Baghawi, who in turn recorded it from Muqatil and al-Kalbi. It is the view transmitted from the early commentators, and the vast majority of scholars adopt it. As for the second interpretation, I have found no one who traces it back to any of the early generations. Those who advanced it did so only because they observed that prostration is not incumbent upon everyone who merely hears a portion of the Qur’an, and thus they sought to interpret the verse in a way that would make it obligatory in all circumstances.
