Chapter on the Miqats
The prescribed miqat for the people of Madinah is Dhu’l-Ḥulayfah; for those coming from Greater Syria, Egypt, and the Maghrib, it is al-Juhfah; for the people of Yemen, Yalamlam; for the people of Najd, Qarn; and for those arriving from the eastern lands, Dhāt ʿIrq. Each miqat applies to its own inhabitants as well as to anyone who passes through it. A pilgrim who lives in Mecca enters the state of iḥrām for Hajj from within the city itself, but for ʿUmrah he must do so in the ḥill—the area lying outside the Sacred Precinct.
