It is recommended to perform a ritual bath (ghusl) for the Eid on its day—preferably beforehand (1); to groom oneself, apply perfume, put on one’s finest clothes, set out early on foot, sit close to the imam, recite Sūrat al-Kahf that day, and increase both supplication and prayers (2) for the Prophet ﷺ.
One must not step over people’s shoulders unless he is the imam or is moving toward an empty space. It is forbidden to make another person stand so that one may sit in his place, except when a companion arrived earlier and is safeguarding the spot for him. It is likewise forbidden to remove a spread prayer mat before the prayer has begun. If someone leaves his place for a passing need and returns to it shortly thereafter, he has the stronger right to it.
Whoever enters while the imam is delivering the sermon should not sit until he has prayed two brief rakʿahs. Speaking during the sermon is not permissible except for the imam himself or for the one he addresses; conversation is allowed both before and after the sermon.
