Sālim ibn ʿĪsā ibn Sālim al-Ḥajjāwī al-Maqdisī, later al-Ṣāliḥī, a Hanbalī—may Allah forgive him and his father, and forgive us and our parents, all Muslims, and everyone who asks forgiveness for them. Āmīn.

On Thursday, the sixth of Rajab in the year 966 AH, he completed his marginal notes for his own use—confessing his shortcomings, whether of today or yesterday—this sinful idler, mere servant of sandals, the pauper in need of his Generous Lord’s pardon, Nūr al-Dīn ibn Muḥammad al-Fiṣī, residing in Baʿalbek, Hanbalī in jurisprudence, Qādirī in spiritual path. May Allah forgive him, his parents, and everyone who prays for their forgiveness, and all Muslims.

It was then copied and compared with a transcript taken from the author’s own handwriting, and the collation was finished on Tuesday, midway through Jumādā al-Ākhir in the year 1006 AH. Praise belongs to Allah alone. End of the author’s statement.

The present editor says: I completed collating this book with its manuscript copies and with Sharḥ al-Muqniʿ on the Day of ʿArafah, 1424 AH. I ask Allah, exalted is He, to make it beneficial to Islam and the Muslims. Allah knows best, and may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
