Chapter on Clearance of the Womb (istibrāʾ)

Anyone who comes to own a female slave who is normally subject to intercourse—whether he acquired her from a minor, an adult male, or from either of their opposites—must refrain from intercourse with her and from all its preliminaries until she has completed istibrāʾ.

The clearance period for a pregnant woman ends with delivery; for one who menstruates, with a single menstrual cycle; and for a post-menopausal or pre-pubescent girl, with the passing of one month.
