—observe mourning for three days1. It is not obligatory for a woman in a revocable divorce, or one who has been cohabited with under a mistaken assumption of marriage, through fornication, in an irregular or void contract, or through ownership (i.e., a concubine).
Iḥdād consists of avoiding anything that might invite someone to have intercourse with her or make him eager to look at her: every form of adornment, perfume, beautification, henna, any dye used for embellishment, jewelry, and black kohl—this excludes tutiya and similar substances—as well as the niqab and white2 clothing, even if it is attractive.

A widow must observe her waiting period in the dwelling where it first became obligatory. If she is forced to move because of fear, coercion, or something of that sort3, she may then complete it wherever she wishes.
She may leave the house by day for her necessities, but not at night. Should she neglect iḥdād she incurs sin4, yet her waiting period is still completed once its prescribed time has elapsed.
