The feeding component of the expiation is discharged with the same measure required for the charity of fiṭr alone. For wheat, no less than one mudd may be given, and for any other staple no less than two mudds, this being for each person eligible to receive zakah. Simply serving the poor breakfast or supper does not suffice.

An explicit intention is required for every form of expiation, whether fasting or otherwise. If the man who pronounced ẓihār has intercourse with the very wife concerned, by night or by day, the sequence of fasting days is broken; but if he has relations at night with a different wife, the consecutiveness is not interrupted.¹
